School hosts annual expo celebrating knowledge and creativity

Sri Sankara Vidyashramam MHSS, Thiruvanmiyur, hosted its annual expo, ‘Edventure’, a vibrant celebration of interdisciplinary learning and creativity on Jan.10.

The event featured engaging themes such as signs and symbols, international festivals, maths and science in everyday life, farm to fork, gaming and robotics, showcasing the collective efforts of students across all grades.

The event’s highlights included a captivating BODMAS dance, a powerful punctuation dance, and the 118 periodic elements song, all creatively bringing academic concepts to life.

Chief guest Dr.Gopinath (Principal Scientist – M.S.Swaminathan Research Foundation) delivered an inspiring address, emphasising the significance of creativity in education, and encouraged children to develop a scientific temper and ask ‘Why’ questions to embrace lifelong learning.

The expo attracted enthusiastic participation from parents and students, affirming the school’s commitment to fostering innovation and holistic learning.

Divine depictions at Sri Sankara School

The Kindergarten department of Sri Sankara Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Thiruvalluvar Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur organised a spectacular thematic day on the topic ‘Divine Depictions’.

The event saw young students bringing to life divine characters and stories through their engaging performances and colourful costumes.

The event began with the Pre-KG students beautifully depicting Mount Kailash, the divine abode of Lord Shiva. The LKG students took the audience on a spiritual journey through Arupadaiveedu and Dasavatharam. Iconic scenes from the Mahabharata were also reenacted, leaving visitors immersed in the epic’s legendary moments.

The UKG students enacted the classic Tamil tale Thiruvilayadal, and the presence of the Ashtalakshmi, the eight forms of the Goddess Lakshmi, further elevated the atmosphere. The day concluded with a grand staging of the Ramayana.

The Navaratri celebrations at Sri Sankara Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Thiruvalluvar Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur, which began on Oct.3, concluded with much fanfare and cultural vibrancy, with students taking centre stage each day through a series of cultural performances.

The centrepiece of the celebrations was a meticulously arranged kolu display, themed ‘Ananya Bharatham’, which captivated visitors throughout the week.

The kolu depicted India’s rich heritage through various topics including ethics and epics, the great Indian temples, unity in diversity, the ancient gurus, and the progress of India.

These displays not only celebrated Indian culture but also served as an educational journey for all attendees. The events received overwhelming appreciation from visitors, making it a memorable celebration of both tradition and learning, remarked Dr.Janaki, the Principal of the school.

Eco-Friendly Golu: The Golu was crafted using eco-friendly materials like cardboard and natural dyes. Students from Grade 8, under the guidance of EFI, displayed their awareness of endangered species by presenting figurines and decor that aligned with the theme of sustainability.

Upcycled Wonders: The Junk Art Golu: Students used discarded items and transformed them into creative Golu setups. The artistic flair displayed here was commendable, and the message of sustainability resonated strongly with all attendees.

United Global Consortium conducted a comprehensive workshop at Sri Sankara Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Thiruvalluvar Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur, for students of class 11, on life skills and social awareness.

The engaging program covered crucial topics, including internet safety, healthy lifestyle, good touch and bad touch, and the importance of teamwork. Sri Sankara Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Thiruvalluvar Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur recently celebrated Sanskrit Day with great fervour and enthusiasm. The welcome address by the school Sanskrit Teacher, T.N.Revathy, was followed by a speech by the chief guest, Dr.Lavanya Nagarajan from Samskrita Bharthi. She emphasised the significance of learning Sanskrit in today’s world and highlighted the importance of preserving and promoting India’s rich cultural heritage and the role that Sanskrit plays in it.

The students of the school then took centre stage, showcasing their talents through a variety of performances, which mesmerised the audience. The highlights of the event was Bhagawad Gita chanting by KG children, sloka recitation by class 5 and 6 students and prize distributions. The guest of honour, V.Giridhar from Samskrita Bharati and Principal Dr.Janaki also graced the occasion.

Janmashtami celebrations at Sankara School

The KG kids of Sri Sankara Matriculation School, Thiruvalluvar Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur, brought alive the spirit of Janmashtami with fervour and enthusiasm. The tiny tots dressed up as Radhas’ and Krishnas’, adding a splash of colour and joy to the festivities.

The celebrations began with a mesmerising dance performance by the students. This was followed by a series of fun-filled games, including tickling, tug of war, and butter eating, which left the children in splits.

The students also showcased their spiritual side through bhajans, shlokas, and Bhagwat Gita chanting, which filled the air with devotion and piety. The highlight of the event was the formation of a human chain in the shape of a pot with a flute and foot, symbolising the divine bond between Krishna and his devotees. The children also participated in a colouring activity, where they coloured Krishna’s face and a pot.

Sri Sankara Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Thiruvalluvar Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur, held its much anticipated grand 41st Annual Day on July 27. Themed ‘Ananya Bharatham’; the event was filled with patriotism and vibrant performances.

Chief guests Dr.Kamaraj – HOD of NIEPMD and Dr.Vidhya – Senior Asst. Professor with Madras Medical College (Paediatrics), inspired all with their speeches. The event highlighted the achievements and talents of the students over the past year by honouring them with awards.

Secretary of the school, Sankar, welcomed the gathering. The annual report for the year 2023-2024 was presented by the Principal, Dr.Janaki. The celebration focussed on the school’s vibrant community spirit and commitment to excellence.
